The Boys Who Fall

“She’s My Winona” analysis.

Lyrics: Life’s just a pay stub on debt(he is saying that life is like an overdue paycheck; it eventually has to come to an end)

Only less diligent(no one has any idea when life will end)
And when the two collide
It’s no coincidence(everything happens for a reason in life)
The lights are on
And everybody’s home(nothing is surprising about the situation)

The only thing suicidal
Here is the door(the only thing we can do to end it is to walk out on ourselves)
We had a good run
Even I have to admit(we had a good career going for us)
Life’s just a pay stub on debt
Only less diligent

Hell or glory
I don’t want anything in-between(all or nothing)
Then came a baby boy
With long eyelashes(new things are in store for them)
Daddy said you gotta show
The world the thunder(take chances and show the world what your made of)
Ooooh the thunder (x3)

We didn’t come to compete
This is all demonstration(they didn’t come to be the best just to show who they are and what they can do; this wasn’t for real)
Even the young ones
We come around I’ll bet(even mainstream listeners will like it eventually)
They always bring up
How you changed(they liked our old material better)

Never the same
Person when I go to sleep
As when I wake up
As when I wake up(so many different people in his life; PARTYS!)

Analysis: This song was a very difficult to comprehend, but I think I had a good grasp on it. Basically, the song is about FOB’s career and how it looks like its coming to an end. Also, they mention a lot how people might miss their old material and how their career so far was like a joke. The chorus mentions phrases like “hell or glory I don’t anything in between” which is referring to how they want to be loved or hated. In the chorus, they also discuss new doors opening up for them.

I hope you enjoyed this analysis! The new one will be this Friday, and I will try to keep on top of my work better.

Sorry for the delay

I’m back with another song analysis and this time the lucky contestant is “I Don’t Care”. Enjoy!

Lyrics: Say my name and his in the same breath(we roll together and as a group)

I dare you to say they taste the same(he is saying the ‘they’ is really different and one is more liked than the other)
Let the leaves fall off in the summer
And let December glow feel flames
(change everything around; FOB is changing)

Brace myself and let go(let yourself loose; no regrets; go with the flow)

Start it over again in Mexico(ditch the same old junk and do it somewhere else)

These friends, they don’t love you

They just love the hotel suites, now(they are using FOB for their money)

I don’t care what you think as long as it’s about me(he doesn’t care what people think about him)
The best of us can find happiness in misery(bright person can find happiness in anything even misery)
I don’t care what you think as long as its about me
The best of us can find happiness in misery

Take a chance, let your body get a tolerance(do bad things so that the body will eventually get used to it)
I’m not a chance but a heatwave in your pants(the chance he is talking about is not him; most likely a sexual reference)
Pull a breath like another cigarette(he is going to kill someone as easy as lighting a cigarette)
Palms up, I’m trading ‘em, trading ‘em(he is going to have his palms read by a fortune teller)

I’m the oracle in my chest(he tells his own fate)
Let the guitar scream like a fascist(let the guitar be heard like a totalitarian leader)
Sweat it out, shut your mouth, free love on the streets(fake people will pretend to love you)
But in the alley it ain?t that cheap, now(true love is not easy to come by)

(Chorus)

Analysis: This song was very tricky for me to comprehend. However, the song mainly talks about the media and how they judge people by their looks and rumors. The chorus is saying that FOB is tired of caring what other people think about them and need to focus on the more important things in life, like their music! They are also discussing how they want to decide what happens to them not some false media crap.

Sorry again for the delay!

Alright, today has been a very busy day and I did not get a chance to post the song analysis. However, tomorrow, meaning Saturday, I will have one up for you guys to check out. The song I will be analyzing is called “I Don’t Care”. On a side note, I hope you like the new theme!

Tomorrow is the first game of my fantasy baseball team, the Detroit Wailers. I am incredibly excited! I have never before competed in a fantasy league and think my team is going to actually turn out pretty good. On a side note, my life is going pretty good right now. Yesterday I had the chance to hang out with one of my closest friends who is also conveniently my neighbor. I am still listening to FOB and am sorry for the next song analysis delay. I will have it up for Friday and will make it a Friday routine from now on.

Well, this Thursday is my annual talent show at my high school, and I am really looking forward to it. I, myself will merely be lip syncing to some popular songs. There are going to be a lot of talented people preforming from singing to pogo sticking. Another great piece of news is that school is almost out! For me we have just about two months to go until the four months of peace and relaxation. Ah, finally.

Apology:

As you might have figured out already, I am new to the blogging world and have recently been caught up with school work. Having said, I will keep as up-to-date as I can on all the newest FOB news and updates, but please bear with me on the not-so-constant posts. Thank you.

Song Analysis

Hello again. I’m going to begin a new series called “What is it saying?”. In this series, I will be analyzing the lyrics to a lot of the FOB songs starting with the ones off of Folie a Deux. I will be analyzing the lyrics, telling what I think they are really saying, and what the purpose of the song is. I will be submitting a song each week. Enjoy!

My Take on Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes

I’m coming apart at the seams  (This obviously means that he’s falling apart)
Pitching myself for leads in other people’s dreams (Saying that he wants to be noticed by other people and be seen in their future. He wants to be wanted by other people)
Now buzz, buzz, buzz  (Alarm clock going off, saying that he finally notices reality)
Doc, there’s a hole where something was
Doc, there’s a hole where something was  (Things aren’t the way they used to be)

Fell outta bed,
Butterfly bandage, but don’t worry—
You’ll never remember, your head is far too blurry. (He doesn’t remember what things used to be)
Put him in the back of a squad car,
Restrain that man!
He needs his head put through a catscan!
Hey Editor— I’m undeniable!
Hey Doctor— I’m certifiable! (He feels crazy but what he’s saying is right, it’s “undeniable”)

I’m a loose bolt of a complete machine (He has a great thing going with Fall Out Boy but he wants to come lose)
What a match
I’m half doomed and you’re semi-sweet

So boycott love
Detox just to retox (Why do we finally get over love just to get back into it again)
And I’d promise you anything for another shot at life (He wants to get back to the way things used to be, real life)
Imperfect boys with their perfect lives (They don’t really deserve all this fame and glory that they’ve gotten)
Nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy (People don’t want to hear them sing about bad things when their lives are pretty much perfect)

Little girl, you got me staring odd (Something is different about this girl)
Or was that just a telescopic camera now? (Or is this just the paparazzi portraying her this way)
Painted dolls in the highway truck stop stalls (No one wants to run over, to hurt, the fake painted dolls or people that fame has created)
Lot lizard scales cool your nightlife mood  (Cold, bitterness can ruin you.)
All the rookies leave your badge and your gun on the desk when you leave the room (Once Fall Out Boy is gone, everything about them will not be out in the world)

Song Analysis: “Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes”

Lyrics: (Analysis in bold) I’m coming apart at the seams(sounds like the band is falling apart)

Pitching myself for leads in people’s dreams(someone wants to try something new)
Now buzz, buzz, buzz
Doc, there’s a hole where something was
Doc, there’s a hole where something was(something just isn’t the same anymore)

Fell outta bed, butterfly bandage, but don’t worry
You’ll never remember, your head is far too blurry(they can’t remember what the old FOB was like)
Put him in the back of a squad car, restrain that man
He needs his head put through a cat scan
Hey editor, I’m undeniable, hey doctor, I’m certifiable(the writer of the song is insane but does not want his music edited)

I’m a loose bolt of a complete machine(something is missing from him)
What a match, I’m half doomed and you’re semi sweet(opposites attract. semi=half so half doomed and semi sweet seem to go together)

So boycott love, detox just to retox(love has hurt him too many times but wants to go through it again)
And I’d promise you anything for another shot at life(he wants to redo life at any stakes)
Imperfect boys with their perfect lives(people who do bad things and get away with it)
Nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy(people only want to listen to positive things)
(Wants to hear you sing about tragedy)

Little girl, you got me staring odd(he has a weird look for a weird person)
Or was that just a telescopic camera nod?(it may have been the paparazzi making him stare oddly)
Painted dolls in highway truck stop stalls(weird things go through their heads)
Lot lizard scales cool your nightlife moods(lizards are cold blooded and he is saying that the cold will calm you)
All the rookies leave your badge and your God on the desk
When you leave the room(all the fake, new, and pampered stars need to put aside everything they believe in and enter the real world)

I’m a loose bolt of a complete machine
What a match, I’m half doomed and you’re semi-sweet

Boycott love, detox just to retox
And I’d promise you anything for another shot at life
Imperfect boys with their perfect lives
Nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy

Detox just to retox, detox just to retox
Detox just to retox, detox just to retox

Detox just to retox, detox just to retox
(So boycott love)
Detox just to retox, detox just to retox
(Boycott love)

So boycott love, detox just to retox
And I’d promise you anything for another shot at life
Imperfect boys with their perfect lives
Nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy
(Wants to hear you sing)
Nobody wants to hear you sing about tragedy
(Wants to hear you sing about tragedy)

Meaning: This song is a very complex one to understand. Most of the time they are talking about the media and how it constantly harasses them, and how anyone can get famous, but its not all fun and games. The first verse is predominately made up of FOB talking about how they are having problems, and how they feel like there are “holes where something once was”. The chorus talks mainly about how the song writer feels about love, yet still wants to go through it. In the second verse, FOB discusses the people new to fame and fortune as I discussed earlier.

Purpose: I think that the purpose of the song is to show how crazy things have gotten in the life of FOB and the small hint of them falling apart. Overall, they reference the people new to fame several times as being pampered and not able to handle troubles. Finally, the topic of love. Many writers discuss love in their songs but this song is very different from the other main ones. FOB says to “boycott love” which theoretically means to give up on it.
